Case Studies - Laurel Hill Cemetery - Philadelphia, PA - September 28, 2007

The SJPR Team at Laurel Hill!

Laurel Hill Cemetery is the most fascinating that SJPR has ever investigated!  It is one of the few in the country that has the distinction of being a National Historical Landmark.  Laurel Hill is the final resting place to many of Philadelphia's elite society, civil war generals, survivors of the Titanic, and just regular folks.  The directors of the cemetery have the records of every person interred here, including the first, Mercy Carlisle.

Laurel Hill Cemetery is not just for the dead.  The Friends of Laurel Hill Cemetery regularly hold functions here for the living, including the Gravedigger's Ball, Dining with the Dead, the Philly Fringe Festival, and much, much more!  You can even book your own event here!  Imagine that!  Planning a night out in a cemetery!

Well, that's exactly what the members of SJPR did this night.  We were accompanied by the cemetery's Executive Director, Ross Mitchell, and Philadelphia Inquirer reporter, Ed Colimore as we wandered among the statuesque grave markers for a history lesson and of course, a bit of ghost hunting!  We managed to get a few pictures of spirit activity and despite the noise of the bustling city that surrounded us, we were astonished at the number of clear EVP we recorded!

In the spirit of preserving our country's historic treasures, and for a really good time, we urge you to partake in some of what this unique and lively cemetery has to offer!  Visit their website by clicking here to check out their upcoming events.  And keep your eye out for upcoming events that will be presented by SJPR!  More investigations are planned here including the historic buildings!

We offer some of our findings here....

As the SJPR team moved through the cemetery, Investigator Spring sensed a man named Leonard was following us.  She turned to take a picture and there was a dense orb just where she sensed the man.

Investigator Halpin stated aloud that she felt a spirit had just quickly approached her when Investigator Bove' took this picture showing she was surrounded by orbs.

Surprisingly, we were not capturing many pictures this night.  But then, Investigator Halpin took this picture showing multiple orbs, one of which is red!

Investigator Rogozin captured this spirit orb during our walk-through of the cemetery.

Investigator Halpin caught these orbs near this very unique headstone.  The sculpture of the urn that is broken off its base is a symbol that this poor soul met with a violent death.

There is nothing paranormal about this picture...we're just using it to even out the rows of pictures!  Here are investigators Bove' and Kurkis taking a "ghost hunter style" picture during a break in the investigation.

EVP EVIDENCE

As mentioned above, we were able to capture some pretty clear EVP, despite the constant din of Philadelphia and the airplanes that flew overhead every 5 minutes (at least it seemed that way)!

This is a very special EVP because it was the first one ever recorded by Investigator Rogozin!  While fiddling with his camera, the voice of a young girl offered, "I can help you."   Was she offering her help with the camera?   Listen

In this clip, recorded by Investigator Agar, you will hear one of the investigators saying, "I don't know," in response to a question.  She is immediately followed by a gruff male spirit repeating, "I don't know!"   Listen

As Investigator Kurkis and his team were discussing a steep hill they came upon in the cemetery, his recorder picked up this wild screaming!  Despite how loud this spirit was, the team did not hear him!   Listen

In this clip, recorded by Investigator Halpin, you'll hear her making a note to herself after stepping on and snapping a branch, saying, "That's me."  A man then says, "Me too!"  It should be noted that there were no men present when this was recorded.   Listen

While Investigator Bove' was walking alone, she recorded this male voice saying in a draw-out tone, "Emily."  A woman quickly answers, "Yeah?" and the man continues, "Speak to me."  Although a plane was overhead when this was captured, it is astonishingly clear!   Listen

In this recording captured by Investigator Bove', the team had all just stopped to hear the story of the first person interred at Laurel Hill, Mercy Carlisle.  We then decided to move along on our tour and although a couple of us were talking, this voice was clear among our voices!  A young boy says, "See Prince?  They're moving."  He also sounds to have a bit of an English accent.  Was he trying to comfort someone who was unnerved by our presence?  Or simply talking to a beloved dog?   Listen

Investigator Bove' recorded this EVP during a conversation about a headstone she and Halpin had found.  The man can be heard pleading, "Help me!"  Again, no men were present when this was recorded.   Listen
