Case Studies - Historical House - Marcus Hook, PA - September 17, 2005

We were invited by the owners of this lost treasure to investigate the paranormal activity they were experiencing.  Unassuming in its appearance, this house is purported to have been that of Black Beard's mistress.  Seated closely to the Delaware River, it would make sense that seamen, even pirates, would take advantage of this prime real estate...a "port of call," so to speak.

The very early history of the house is unclear, but its construction may date back to the 1600s.  Better record keeping confirms the house stood in the early 1700s, possibly as early as 1701.  The current owners have literally gutted much of the house and are unearthing astonishing facts and artifacts in and around the property.  It is constructed much like a log cabin, but planks of wood were used, rather than round logs.  The planks are fitted together with hand-carved dovetails and were covered with horse-hair plaster when originally constructed.  A crude arrow was scratched into the planks, which has been identified as a mark of the king of England.  Homes built during this period of history in England were marked in this way to signify allegiance to the throne.

While restoring this gem to its original splendor, the owners are also trying to save the house from destruction, as a developer would like to raze yet another piece of our American history to erect condominiums.  The homeowners have been successful in getting the house recognized as "endangered," but it is not yet safe.  Please visit their website at www.bbplankhouse.com if you would like to help save this house!

Before presenting our evidence, we should note that we knew nothing of the home's history before our investigation.  One investigator got the impression of pirates and another saw "rows of beds" (it is rumored the house was used as a brothel at some point in time).  Another investigator got the impression of accountants and financial transactions only to learn after the investigation that the house was also used for a time as a bank.  A few of the investigators had also gotten the impression that the house had sustained a significant fire, but was not completely destroyed.  Records show that a portion of the house had indeed succumbed to fire.

We also managed to capture some astonishing EVP during our investigation, but a few of the best can not be posted in our public pages due to the profanity of a "salty" female...perhaps Black Beard's mistress?  We may never know!  For now, though, she is confined to the Adults Only section of our website, should you want to hear what she had to say!

This picture, taken by Investigator Sauter, shows multiple orbs near the window in the attic.  Also significant in this picture is the placement of the digital recorder.  Within seconds of this picture being captured, an EVP was also recorded.  In the 3 minutes following this photo, 3 more EVP were recorded.

When a fellow investigator's dowsing rod stopped and pointed to one of our visiting guests, Investigator Bove' snapped this picture showing that there was a single orb directly over her head.

In this picture captured by Investigator Pierantozzi, dowsing rods were again a useful aid.  When the rods fixed on the area of the basement steps, orbs were clearly present.

Investigator Halpin took this picture outside the home after the homeowner said he felt "something bad" in this area.  Investigator Sauter (pictured) had moved in to investigate.

Although not the most impressive orb picture ever captured by Investigator Bove', it was taken at the same time an EVP was recorded, which can be heard below.

Investigator Bove' took this picture in the living room when she felt the presence of an elderly female near the front door.
EVP EVIDENCE

Recorded by Investigator Bove' at the same time the picture above was taken (bottom left photo), you'll hear a female asking, "Is it open?  Is it open?"  It should be noted that the team was meditating at the time this was recorded and no one was talking.   Listen

While investigating in the attic, Investigator Sauter recorded this male voice, possibly two male voices.  In the first part of the recording, you'll hear a male say, "I love it," followed by a louder male voice saying, "Yes, I can."  The giggling in the recording is that of an investigator.   Listen

Even during our breaks our dedicated members will still keep collecting evidence!  Although there is an investigator talking in this clip, listen carefully to the male spirit whispering, "I'm...dead!"  This is another great capture by Investigator Sauter.   Listen

In this recording captured by Investigator Halpin, a male voice can be heard clearly whispering, "Hannah....died."  Listen

Investigator Halpin has a habit of leaving her recorders running (she has several of them) throughout an investigation - even during our breaks!  This is an astonishing capture, which was recorded in the attic, as the entire team was outside of the house.  For a few moments, the homeowner re-entered the house, but this clip reveals that there was both male and female voices captured.  In the beginning of the clip, there is a loud whistle, then two males and a female laughing.  A man then says, “Here boy, here boy,” as if calling a dog, followed by more laughter.  At the very end of the clip, a fainter male voice says, “Your wife’s got that job.”  There's a lot going on here and the voices are very loud!   Listen
